It contains much new information and documentary evidence and a large quantity of hitherto unpublished illustrations drawn from a wide variety of sources. For ease of reference the book has been divided into five main sections, each dealt with in alphabetical order:History of Derby, People Associated with Derby, Production Materials and Techniques, Subject Matter and Patterns, Usage (classification by type of product). There is also a section on marks and appendices on The Old Derby Pattern Books, price lists of groups and single figures, as well as a previously unpublished twenty page illustrated appendix on cup shapes. This is a comprehensive study of the Nottingham Road Derby factory, its staff and its wares, with detailed biographies on anyone and everyone connected with production and sales during the factory´s first hundred years.
